Following an artist residency at this beautiful National Trust house, we have created a new piece which uses the structure and cultural history of Mottisfont to create a unique theatrical experience within the house itself.
The piece focuses upon ex-Mottisfont resident and artist-muse Maud Russell. Maud was a fascinating character and although quite the celebrity in her day, famous for her string of affairs (including Ian Fleming) and her unorthodox pets (including a crocodile), history has recorded little about her.
A major part of the creation of this piece was the collection of oral histories from the local community and Mottisfont staff to piece together a picture of Maud’s time there. Where better to tell her story than in the house in which she lived.
