For our latest show, Marilyn Gets Up, we are interviewing women about sex appeal and Marilyn Monroe. We are recording these interviews and they will form an important part of our show.

Day Four and Five: ‘I Wanna Be Loved By You…’

A bit late with day four and five’s blog - furious rehearsals making the most out of every last minute we had, didn’t leave much time for blogging.

At the beginning of last week we invited some friends and artists from York in the shape of Tom Bellerby, Luke James and Oli O’Shea to an informal sharing of our week’s work. It seemed like such a good idea, and like we had plenty of time when we tweeted them on Sunday. Now that it was Thursday morning and we hadn’t yet run anything through, we questioned our logic…

Day three has seen some mechanical failures, in an attempt to take the ideas and images we have created and elevate them to the ‘next level’.

We started our day on a breakfast of poached eggs provided by our darling host, Betty Royle (now a firm friend, as this is our third stay with lovely 87 year old Betty whilst performing or rehearsing in York). Betty got the eggs off of the milkman John, who we met at a fabulous village charity brunch on Sunday (Betty took us for a morning out on the town).

This week sees the end of our ShadyJane Summers tour, with Sailing On at Sitelines festival, Reading. If you haven’t caught us out on the road, why not use this opportunity to come and see Sailing On (did we mention it won an award at Edinburgh?) TONIGHT and TOMORROW night. Perhaps we could persuade you with the mention in Lyn Gardner’s theatre tips for this week.

The Strindberg Club Rebels

We reach our final ‘Strindberg Club’ and so end our little meetings at The Lair of the Emerald Peacock. We prepare to charter new territory at Basingstoke alternative arts venue ‘The Shop’.

But we’ll get to that.

We start by marking some of the key milestones in the life of Strindberg and Co. reducing their lives to a few notes on scraps of paper taped together.
